Trujillo & Huanchaco
*** Updated June 28, 2009. ***
Accommodations
I recommend staying in Huanchaco when you are visiting this area… it is much more relaxed, and only a 15 minute (no more than $4) taxi ride away from Trujillo central.
Huanchaco Gardens
Av. Circunvalación 440, Haunchaco
- We rented a small apartment/bungalow here for a decent monthly rate. They also rent nightly, and have an area in the back for RV hookups.
- There are two pools on the grounds, as well as a number of animals (2 peacocks, bunnies, a sweet old dog named Tony, a turtle…)
- Wi-fi and computers available. Hot, hot water. The staff is very friendly and family-oriented.
Casa Suiza Hostal
Los Pinos 308, Huanchaco
- Nice rooms and shared spaces. Private or shared bath available.
- Wi-fi, restaurant. I can’t remember if breakfast was included.

- Best “Mexican food” in town.
- The staff here is also really friendly and will sometimes sit and chat.
- Connected to The Wave surf school, so expect to be asked about taking lessons.
Arcimboldo Cafe and Restaurant
Las Gardenías 611, Huanchaco (between Los Pinos street and the Plaza de Armas)
- Sleek, modern setting with very nicely prepared Italian food.
- Young husband (Italian) and wife (Peruvian) team are just starting out.
Casa Tere
Jr. Victor Larco 280, Huanchaco (corner of the Plaza de Armas)
- Decent Italian-esque food.
- Has more atmosphere than most restaurants on the main strip!
Casa Suiza Hostal
Los Pinos 308, Huanchaco
- Great pizza, cooked in an oven that is set up in the front patio area. Also has good breakfasts in the morning.
Barca
Address, Huanchaco (just a half block away from the main strip)
- Great place for seafood. Much more comfortable than the seafood restaurants on the strip.
- Seats in the upstairs area still have some views of the water.
Sites to See
- Huanchaco beach
- Chan Chan & adjoining ruins!
