Since my swimsuit, almost all of my tank tops, and my sandals were in my backpack that was stolen, I came to Huanchaco seriously unprepared for the beach and sunny weather.
My sister is bringing down some replacements, but in the mean time last week I laid out in my underwear and one of my remaining tanks. That’s almost too personal of information to share on my blog, isn’t it?
I figured that nobody would bother me or notice if I stayed at the quiet end of the beach with my headphones on. That was definitely not the case. People in Huanchaco are all very nice, and they all have something to sell to you. I was approached more than once about surfing lessons, handmade jewelry, hair wraps (even though I have short hair) and snacks.
One guy in particular stopped and we had over an hour long conversation about how awesome Huanchaco is… He seemed oblivious to my weird outfit. Another traveler joined us at some point though, a lady from France. She definitely knew that my swimsuit was actually tighty whiteys and gave me a sneaky grin when she sat down.
All-in-all a little embarrassing, but worth not having a tanline. And thank you Heather from bringing me a proper swimsuit!
p.s. This is my new sarong/beach towel that I think will become standard wear once we’re back in town.
