Spanglish is a big part of the language here in Peru. With the invention of new technologies, most often the English word is either strangely adapted or accepted out right into the Spanish vernacular. Just a few for example:

To surf Sorfear
To snowboard Snowboardear*
To dip (like a chip) Dipear
CD Player CD Player

The use of Spanglish in advertising here in Peru is especially fascinating to me. It is used purposefully as a way to sound casual, and in touch. Spanglish usually doesn´t register with me immediately. My Spanish skills are at the point to where I´m confusing what is English and what is Spanish. It´s all a mishmash of words in my head right now. So it doesn´t pop out right away.

When I do recognize it as Spanglish, in print and used purposefully, I think it´s jarring and awkward.

I finally got a shot of a specific example on our pizza box the other night.

*Snowboardear is Scott’s favorite word.
