I realize earthquakes are common here in Peru. I see news reports about them almost every day. They are usually small, with no damage or harm done. And this is a good thing for releasing the earth’s energy and avoiding a more destructive earthquake.
Last night we felt our first earthquake. There were two rumbles, actually… Scott and I were watching 24, and at first I thought it was a big truck going down our cobblestone street. When we felt the second rumble just one second later, we kind of looked at each other and scrambled over to our front door.
No harm done, but I was glad we had thought in advance where the more structurally sound places were in our condo. Our front door not only has a door jam, but it’s adjoining wall is solid concrete.
I think being in an earthquake is a required experience for really understanding Peru. It’s a badge of honor of sorts… even though it was freaky. So, here are the stats from USGS.com.

Or go under a desk/something solid inside the house. That’s what I was taught to do.
