07.12.09+Reindeer

There are some parts of suburbia that I miss here in the “big city”. One of them is exchanging little gifts with your neighbors during the holidays. I remember getting lots of funny things… like 2-liter bottles of soda dressed up as reindeer. (Kind of like this six-pack of rootbeer from Mormonchic.com.)

There was always at least one bottle of sparkling apple cider. Lots of cookies and candies. And every year we’d get wassail mix from our next door neighbors.

I was pretty excited to stumble on this recipe that tastes very similar. Apparently some people call the mix Spice Tea or Russian Tea. I wonder how it taste with a little vodka?

I’ve made some slight changes (decreased sugar and increased cloves/cinnamon) to the original recipe from Full Circle.

Wassail / Spice Tea / Russian Tea

  • 2 cups Tang
  • 1.5 cups instant tea
  • 1 cup powdered lemonade
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1.5 tsp ground cloves
  • 1.5 tsp cinnamon

Mix together. Store in airtight container. Add approximately 2 tsp per cup of hot water. More or less to taste.

Note: I found the Full Circle blog through Bella Dia who I’ve been enjoying for the last month or so!
